The relationship of public investments in science and scientometric indicators from the perspective of Croatian universities

Aim: This study addresses the hypothesis that invest-ments in science are positively correlated with indica-tors of productivity and performance universities. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used datafrom 27 EU countries. The percentage GDP invested higher education 2019 investments ex-pressed as €/inhabitant were used. criterion variables total number publications Web Science for 2020; categorized article, review or note (ARN); change com-pared to 2016 Organisation Economic Co-operation Development (OECD) research areas; per inhabitant; researcher; researcher system; Academic Ranking World Universities (ARWU) TOP1000 universities inhabitant. Descriptive data Pearson Spearman correlations calculat-ed. Additionally, partial detailed examinations Results: Most indicators positivelycorrelated investment science. absolute invest-ment is more important than in-vestment expressed GDP. Unexpectedly, between growth rate negative indicating less devel-oped countries have achieved a larger productiv-ity examined 5-year period. Conclusion: results indicate inscience important, but ab-solute amount money also has an role prediction scientific productivity. However, since limited developed countries, they should be focused on buildingthe strategies capitalize specific strengths potentials. further accentuates need policychange Croatia strategic focus aligning re-sources expected results.
